At Calgary Stucco and Paint, we use a specially formulated parging mix designed to provide exceptional strength, durability, and a clean, attractive finish for concrete foundations. Unlike many standard parging mixes, our custom blend has been developed through years of experience to help minimize common issues such as shrinkage, cracking, and surface deterioration.
Our premium parging mix contains:
- Washed sand, which helps reduce the risk of efflorescence (the white mineral deposits that can appear on concrete surfaces).
- Portland cement for long-lasting strength and durability.
- Lime to improve workability and create a smoother, more consistent finish.
- A special shrinkage-reducing agent to help minimize cracking as the parging cures.
- High-strength epoxy additives that significantly improve bonding and overall durability.
- Fibreglass fibres, which act much like reinforcing rebar by increasing tensile strength and helping resist cracking over time.
What Is Parging?
Parging is a thin cement-based coating that is applied directly to exposed concrete foundation walls. Its primary purpose is to create a smooth, uniform appearance while covering rough concrete, imperfections, and minor surface blemishes. A professionally parged foundation gives your home a clean, finished look and can dramatically improve its curb appeal.
It’s important to understand that parging is not a waterproofing system and it is not intended to repair structural foundation cracks. If your foundation has significant cracks or water intrusion issues, those problems should be repaired before new parging is applied.
Instead, foundation parging is primarily a cosmetic finish that protects the surface from normal weathering while enhancing the overall appearance of your home’s foundation.
